The SPIE Student Chapter Imperial College London invited the SPIE NUI Glaway - UL Chapter for a visit and exchange of ideas and experiences (h ttps://www.facebook.com/osaicsc ). Thanks to the initiative of the SPIE officers from the Imperial this event was made possible. In the picture below a NUIG student explores first hand an remote controlled surgical robotic system.

What can you see?

SPIE is a non-profit organization to bring together experts and students to explorer emerging technologies and make them available for everybody. Think about your mobile phone or laptop which you may use to read this web page; those devices are a combination of multiple technologies merged together from different areas beginning with sciences over engineering and finally production.

Also, technology does help people in developing countries to overcome problems of communication and education based on wireless and handheld devices, including remote health care, which would otherwise not available for a large population.
More advanced technology, such as optical coherence tomography, which is used by Prof. Martin Leahy's group to study the microcirculation, is an cutting edge technology, which can make things visible that can support early detection of health conditions and enable minimal invasive treatment.

This explains the phrase "Now you can see it." if using cutting edge technology, but also the need to make technology available for an wider population.
